Airsoft A to Z

AEG: Automatic Electric Gun. The most popular kind of gun on the market.

CQB: Close quarters battle. Airsoft guns designated as CQB usually have a lower power and are meant to be fired at a close range.

Mechbox (aka Gearbox): The mechanism which enables AEGs to function.

Chronograph: The device used to test the speed of a projectile, usually to determine if the speed is a safe rate.

Low-cap: Reliable magazines which hold fifty to one hundred BBs.

Mid-Cap: Medium capacity magazines that function as well as low-cap magazines but can hold more BBs.

Zeroing: The process of making your shots align with the sight of the gun.

EBB: Electric Blow-Back. These are pistols in which the slide moves backwards and forwards when being fired. While this increases realism, it decreases power, as energy must be diverted to power the blow back effect instead of being focused on the actual firing of the projectile.

Breech: Where the BB sits immediately before being fired.

BDU: Battle Dress Uniform. The clothing and gear worn by a player during an airsoft game.

GBB: Gas Blow-Back. Similar to the EBB, except more realistic and powerful.

CA: Classic Army, a popular manufacturer of airsoft guns.

BB: Ball bearing. 6mm and spherical, this is the ammunition used in airsoft. The most common weights of BBs are .12g and .20g.

FPS: Feet per second, a measure of the velocity of airsoft projectiles.

ROF: The rate of fire. Usually measured in RPM, rounds per minute. If an airsoft gun can shoot 500 rounds in 1 minute, it would have an ROF of 500RPM.

Hop-Up: A device which increases the range of an airsoft gun, by putting backspin on each individual pellet.

After-market parts: Anything you can purchase to upgrade or enhance your gun.

Hi-Cap: High capacity magazines. Can hold hundreds of BBs, and usually require a wheel at the bottom of the magazine that needs to be wound occasionally to keep upward feeding pressure on the BBs.

Slide: The primary moving section of an automatic airsoft gun. It takes a round from the magazine, loads it into the breech, and fires it.

Dog Hunting Tips

Many hunters entertain the idea that their prized hunting dog will never be a good hunting dog if he is allowed to step foot in the house. This notion is absurd. Modern hunters of today often miss out on the true companionship that their hunting dog can give to them in the other areas of their life and perhaps in the end, they suffer as much as the dog does from the lack of socialization with their hunting dog who can also be their companion and friend.

It took thousands of years for mankind and canines to develop a partnership. That partnership included the mutual ability to give each other aid and affection. It also built upon the canine’s natural watchdog and guarding capabilities and afforded both the human and the dog a sense of companionship and mutual trust. That togetherness also allowed for the dog to learn more and for the human to train the dog more.

Certainly in the early days of the settling of America the settlers who were lucky enough to have a dog did not dream of sticking him into a pen and leaving him there…the dog was a valuable part of their survival because it could do a great deal to protect the homestead besides being a warm body next to the fireside and helping the hunter to bring home the next meal.

Perhaps the basis of keeping the dog penned except during the hunt came from the traditions established by the nobility of Europe and England when large kennels were the norm for the landowner. Of course it was unfeasible to keep hundreds of dogs in the house. But there was never a time when the Lord of the Manor did not keep his favored hounds in his home with him. The large kennels did a great deal to establish good hunting lines and different breeds, for selective breeding could be more easily accomplished when there were large numbers to choose from for the matings. But the average hunter is not selectively breeding. He has no need at all to keep the dog penned up except during the hunting season.

Apparently there are hunters who believe that allowing a hunting dog to have the run of the house will ruin his nose, deflate his natural hunting instincts, make him fat and lazy and make him become somehow badly mannered and disobedient. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Firstly, the power of the dog’s nose to scent comes with it when it is born. The idea that letting him be in the house will help to destroy his scenting ability is ridiculous. Actually the ability to scent well and to discriminate scents is an inborn ability and increases exponentially as the dog learns to distinguish more and more scents, often many of them having nothing at all to do with hunting. It would seem that the more exposure the dog has to a myriad of scents of all kinds would be better than less exposure. Surely when indoor living is also combined with outdoor living there would be more scents involved!

What Sky Diving Equipment is Required?

When taking part in a sport such as sky diving, it is imperative to have the proper sky diving equipment. The thought of jumping out of a plan is scary but to be shot out of a plane without the proper equipment is asking for trouble. If serious about sky diving, a person must be willing to pay serious cash for sky diving equipment. To insure they are totally fitted with up-to-date sky diving equipment, a person can expect to pay $10000 for sure. With this cost in mind, an individual must really enjoy the sport of sky diving.

Obviously the most important item regarding sky diving equipment is the parachute. This is one piece of equipment a person would definitely want to be working properly. There are several types of parachutes, made of different materials. Parachutes are a combination of light-weight materials, support tapes and suspension lines. These suspension lines are normally threaded through loops made of clothe or connector links made of metal. The loops or links are located at the ends of the risers which are the strong straps that are attached to the harness. Beginners in the sport of sky diving usually start with larger parachutes. This piece of sky diving equipment is essential and should be compared to the individual’s body weight. It is a good idea to try out several types of parachutes to learn which one is best suited and most comfortable for sky diving before buying a new one. As a person learns the skill of sky diving and becomes more at ease with the techniques, they usually begin using smaller and faster parachutes. Of course getting to this point may take quite awhile depending on the amount of time spent practicing sky diving. When a sky diver is really active in the sport, over the course of a few years, he/she may replace the canopy on their parachute several times.

Besides the parachute there are other important pieces of sky diving equipment including the harness or container and peripheral equipment. These pieces are equally as essential as the parachute. However, a sky diver can use their first harness and peripheral equipment for many years. It is imperative to make sure a sky diver’s harness fits appropriately. This is not something a person would want to be too loose or sloppy. After all the harness keeps the sky diver anchored to the parachute. The individual can also expect to pay a nice chunk of change for these pieces or sky diving equipment.

For sky diving, an individual needs to be certain their sky diving equipment is safe and secure. Many people, especially starting out, buy used sky diving equipment. It is imperative to have any equipment used for this sport to be examined by a qualified parachute rigger. To find information about new or used sky diving equipment, a person can use the Internet. There are many websites related to sky diving and some include message boards. This would be an excellent place to buy or sell sky diving equipment.

Finding The Right Types Of Sports

When I was a kid, I thought that I hated all sports. The only types of sports that I was exposed to, after all, were team sports. I was a pretty coordinated kid, but I wasn’t a very good team player. I didn’t have an easy time paying attention to the instructions of the coach, and I wanted to do everything on my own. I didn’t really care whether our team won or lost. If I had been competing on my own, I think I might have liked it better. Nevertheless, I assumed that sports just weren’t for me until I reached the age of 20.

That is when one of my friends turned me on to some other types of sports. He was involved in all types of adventure sports. He loved rock climbing, off-road biking, and many other activities that I had never even contemplated before. I had never really thought about these as sports before, but the seriousness with which he took his activities made me realize that that was precisely what they were. They were competitive sports, and he excelled in them. He was not a professional, of course, but he was an athlete nonetheless.

I went out on excursions with them to try all types of adventure sports. We would hike for miles a day, climb up steep walls, dive into waterfalls, and in general enjoy ourselves in the great outdoors. At first, I was terrible at it. I had always been in very bad shape owing to the fact that I was not interested in any of the types of sports that I had been exposed to in school.

Once I was able to enjoy sporting activity where I was only competing against myself, however, I soon got good at what I was doing. I worked out like a demon, and was sporting a six pac stomach and incredibly muscled arms by the end of the year. At the age of 23, I felt better than I ever had before, and I was only getting stronger. Nowadays, I enjoy mountain biking as my main type of sport. Any kind of outdoor recreation, however, holds my interest. I hope that this article can serve as a lesson for kids who think that they don’t like sports at all. Maybe you just haven’t been exposed to the right sport for you yet! Try doing something that seems adventurous, and you might be surprised by what you find.
